Emerald Forests is a labor of love that we’ve been pouring ourselves into for the past year. The title comes from the opening lyric of Lennert Baert's reimagined version of Joni Mitchell’s Big Yellow Taxi, which truly touched and inspired us from our very first read through.
The songs themselves may be familiar, but they carry new life through close-harmony arrangements created especially for us by some of Belgium’s finest jazz musicians, composers, and arrangers. Singing these pieces and their re-imagined versions has been a journey of discovery, finding new colors and approaches in our voices, and shaping them into something uniquely ours. Something wholly Nelja.
We’re releasing Emerald Forests on the anniversary of our very first concert, three years ago. For us, it’s a milestone and a celebration of everything we’ve built together since then. We hope you enjoy every note.
